The first sunlight beams across the Merced River in Yosemite Valley on a very cold winter morning. The storm was cold enough to create ice flows in the river through this section.

Stunning view Scott, your timing is immaculate having the patience to wait until the sun is exactly where you want it (your local knowledge must help a great deal too of course.)

This is really nicely done, Scott. That's an incredibly difficult exposure to get right (which is why I usually shoot Camp 6 at sunset), even using HDR, but this one looks very natural.

@Gary Hart: Gary thanks. This is one exposure shot in raw and using the fill light in camera raw my sensor was able to capture good details in the shadows and I exposed for the highlights.

In the words of our old Governor (and pres,) Ronnie Reagan..."Well, there ya go again"
He always said that in a debate...Well here , I just quote it because you just keep topping the former with the next one..the hits just keep on coming!..This image is absolutely smattered with jaw dropping light...A splash of cold water from that gorgeous Merced River would not wake me up any more than the beautiful scene you have provided here...this is just wonderful... Beautiful!

the vapors over the icy water (right side) it's the most fascinating thing (for me)

This is gorgeous, Scott! Perfect starburst! I should get you to teach me, I have never gotten it down. I see you were at f22. Guess I always thought that f16 was the optimal aperture for this. You have processed this piece perfectly. I love the blues! Gotta get to Yosemite this winter!!!

I like how you gave so much room for the water and ice in the foreground. The sunstar is very nice, as is the backlighting of half dome.
