Pacheco Sate Park - Pacheco Pass

Posted by
Scott F. Schilling (San Martin, United States) on 5 October 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

A few times a year; in our area of California, we get subtropical moisture that comes up from Mexico through Southern California. For a few days last week we had spectacular clouds. This type of weather pattern often creates a break in the cloud cover to the west, which allows the clouds to light up with spectacular color just after sunset. I drove east to get under the cloud shield to the top of Pacheco Pass, along Highway 152 near San Luis Reservoir. I made it just in time for the light show. As the sun set a spectacular display of natures colors lit the sky!

Simply a wonderful shot, Scott! But I'm equally impressed by your awareness that such weather conditions were en route, your knowledge about where to be positioned to exploit opportunity and when you'd have to be there. An excellent example of how knowledge and well-executed planning can up the chances of success. Bravo!!... and thanks for sharing your Blue Ribbon picture with us!

I'm glad to see the incredible skies were not just limited to the east side of the Sierra range but also along the coastal ranges. Pacheco State Park is one of California's hidden gems. So many people fly by this area in route to either the central valley or the coast and probably don't even know this place exists. Your ability to read weather patterns and plan accordingly paid handsomely!
