Emerald Bay - Lake Tahoe

Posted by
Scott F. Schilling (San Martin, United States) on 10 June 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Here is a 2nd image from Emerald Bay Lake Tahoe - prior to sunrise. This is definitely the coldest morning I have seen in late May in a long time. I believe it was 25 degrees F at Lake Level as I was taking this image.

There were a few clouds just above the Lake that lit up for a very few minutes with an orange glow - just to add to the spectacular view after a very heavy snowfall in late May.

This is so beautiful. The kind of photograph that says, "come and see me."

This lake is a real delight, all year round. The snow here adorns him with a white coat which contrasts with the color of its waters

Snow in May... quite strange I must agree, but in all countries the weather was "special" during the last months !
Anyway, It gave you the opportunity to make this wonderful photo, that's the mort important ;) A really beautiful scene again ! Have a great day Scott :)

Hmm... I prefer the other one (1 June), as it has the dramatic effect of the sun.

Outstanding. We have been having weird weather all up and down the West Coast. When we came through Redwood NP in May, there was snow on the ground.

I think I like this one just a little better because if its cooler tones. It amazes me really, your work is so outstanding.. that I can choose one over the other just for a variance in tone when I think at the time.. ohh this one is perfect! :D I guess you can do more perfecter.

The cool blue tones certainly portray the feeling of chill and near freeze.
I've already commented in an earlier posting on how good the composition is and I'd like to add that you have managed well to produce a distinction between dull cloud and the mountain tops on the horizon.

You have some inspiring places to photograph in California and Washington!

I thought this photo looked familiar. What a difference a little sun makes. The first capture was much warmer than this one, but equally beautiful in its panoramic view.

lovely "frozen" look and feel to this photo - i think you have captured the mood superbly! love the mix of cold blues and touches warmer sunrise colours just before the sun begins to wake up! amazing!
