Yosemite - Glacier Point

Posted by
Scott F. Schilling (Highland, United States) on 10 May 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Dawn approaches the Sierra Crest during an early morning in the Fall of 2009. This is one of my favorite locations in Yosemite National Park. The view of the Sierra Crest is spectacular and it seems as if you could reach out and touch the high peaks. Half Dome and Clouds Rest are in the upper right hand side of the frame. This was taken as subtropical moisture was running over the Sierra Nevada Range from the south, which made for some fantastic skies.

The grey / blue light of the granite is not often shown in images, and is a great contrast to the colors of the sunrise. Very nice image.

One of my favorite locations also Scott and you have captured it in wonderful light. Every time I view an image from this location I am reminded how vast nature can be. We live in such busy times, and to see an image like this reminds me we all need to take time to enjoy the gifts around us. Makes me glad I have chosen landscape photography as a way to earn a living as I get to slow down more than most!

Fabulous sky and a compelling image in every respect, Scott. And I agree - this is one of the most beautiful spots anywhere on this ol' earth. Back in the early seventies - I'll never forget being here during a massive thunderstorm. It was to awesome for me to be properly scarred - though I am sure prayer had much to do with the passing minutes. It is the lightening strikes into the granite faces, the smell, and the crashing cacophony of thunder that are seared into my spirit forever.
