Nisene Marks - Rain Forest

Posted by
Scott F. Schilling (San Martin, United States) on 4 March 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

This is the river flowing through Nisene Marks State Park. As the winters storms approach from the Pacific Ocean they hit the west slope of the Santa Cruz Mountains and drop copious amounts of rain each winter! These rain forest areas support ferns, moss, and a lot of Coastal Redwoods!

NIKON D3 13 second F/22.0 ISO 125 70 mm

Pavan Kaul from Mumbai, India

The color saturation is lovely and so is the use of slow shutter to treat the flowing water...Superbly composed Scott!

I know I was right there with you, but this scene reminds me of Kauai. You have captured the lushness of the area and the silkiness of the stream - well done.

The rock is so full of lush vegetation but I think what really does it, at least for me, is that log reaching down into the water and all the verdant growth on it. Spectacular!

Stunning as always!

Yonatan from Bronx, United States

Such vibrant colors and silky smooth water! Did you use an ND filter to achieve such a slow shutter?

4 Mar 2010 10:16pm

@Yonatan: Thanks for the comment. This was taken on a cloudy and rainy morning. I dropped the iso to 100 and with a circular polarizer and at f22 I was able to get a very long exposure without any other filters.

Paul from summerside, Canada

Very nice..

Beautiful perspective captured of this very lush and vibrant green composition. The slow shutter speed result on the water in the bottom left makes it look like a light is shining from below water level.

wow! the water looks frozen solid and it gives is a somewhat surreal feel compared to the vivid and lively greens all around!

Oh, and I forgot to add a comment about the waterfall seen in the distance, which pleasantly looks quite "textured" despite the slower shutter speed.
