California White Wash

Posted by
Scott F. Schilling (San Martin, United States) on 12 December 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

A recent very cold Alaskan-Canadian cold front brought very cold temperatures and low snow levels to the San Francisco Bay Area. A nice sight to see the world with a fresh coat of paint!

Julie from Easton, United States

Very nicely captured. And I agree with the paint job!

Gorgeous shot, Scott! This is just wonderful - you captured the white and yet the details remain. Not an easy task.

I can't imagine California under the snow ! When I went there it was summer and I guess it's hard to imagine this landscape under snow. Anyway, it exists and wow, I must admit that it's beautiful. A great Christmas postcard.

How lovely this is ... and I like the distant hillside you captured in what would otherwise have been a white sky.
The angled fence lines draw the eye right into the snow-laden Oaks. Beautiful!

A fresh coat of snow has a way of simplifying the landscape and reducing it to its most beautiful form. Congrats on climbing out of bed early, braving the arctic weather, and making a stunning image for all of us to enjoy!

A great scene Scott, it's difficult for us to imagine snow in the San Francisco area, we always think of California as a sunshine state!

In the 15+ years that I lived in the Bay Area, I never saw snow like that. In my memory, the place where you took your shot is known more for its summer heat.

I like the image for the contrast in tones and the "simplicity" from the snow. Very nice.

Nicely captured Scott! It is a scene we see for about 9 months of the year and sometimes take for granted the beauty that lies within. Bravo! ;-)

Bravo, Scott - I lover the B&W for this. It's been 7 or 8 years since I managed to get some snow ridge images in the Bay Area. Good timing.

It is so amazing to see every tiny branch coated with snow! This doesn't happen often here on the California coast, but it is spectacular when it does! You have a fantastic ability to "be there" when the magic happens! (but I know that it's more planning and commitment than luck!)
