Sequoia National Park Sunset

Posted by
Scott F. Schilling (San Martin, United States) on 21 November 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

A sunset as viewed from Moro Rock in Sequoia National Park. I liked this view with the layers of mountains and hills into the far distance!

Great shot! amazing layers and depth in this image! I also love the contrast of the hard chunky rocks against the soft flowing landscape in the background. And the burst of sun is the cherry on top!

Fascinating view. I could stay here for hours. And look at the horizon, make dream, sing, talk to myself, think about people I love, things I've done, things I've missed... a perfect place for personal thoughts.

So beautiful ............... I like Tracey's comment about the contrast of the rocks and soft distant mountains, and also zOOm's ... "place for personal thoughts." The flare from the sun adds additional beauty.

I agree with all the comments made here Scott, but I would like to ad that your post-processing skills are really finely-honed. This image looks so natural, but as you and I (and many others) are aware, the camera cannot capture all these subtleties without some help. You make this scene appear as you saw it and you know how to overcome the camera's shortcomings.

Beautiful!! We climbed up Moro Rock a couple of summers ago but it was mid-morning with harsh light. Nice memories anyway. I also love how your captured the layers of mountains and hills in the distance!

Scott - I have to say that you are a perfectionist. My stock of superlatives in describing your images is totally depleted. I am so grateful to have discovered your posts. The downside is that you are totally to blame making me go out and ordering new kit. I hope you can live with yourself!!! :-)

Superb photo. The ambience and mountains layers, and the lead line are amaizing, it looks like a landscape coming from the scenario of the "Lord of the Rings":).

fantastically layered landscape - each ridge that can be seen seems to take the eyes further in just one more step and allows for the understand of distance covered here - sharpness remains perfect throughout - a stunning view!

Hi Scott,

Stumbled across your site and was really impressed by your photos. Your landscapes are stunning, I love the colours in this image, the sun breaking the horizon and the most in the valleys. Very calming and beautiful, great image. Also, the physical leg work to get up for the shot is excellent.
