Lava, Sea, and Sky

Posted by
Scott F. Schilling (San Martin, United States) on 19 October 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

A small tidepool along the coastline allows the earth, sea, and sky to meet for a few moments with warm colors at evening twilight.

Don Smith from California, United States

One of the aspects I love about this type of image is the slight mystery in its nature of revealing a sense of scale. If your caption told me you shot this from an airplane at 30,000 feet and this was actually a large lake it would have been believable. But this is where the photographer chooses to leave a bit of ambiguity lingering, which in turn, keeps the viewer lingering - well done!

Wow, I agree with Don's comment. Plus at first I wondered if I was looking thru one of the cave rocks that are not totally uncommon along parts of the Pacific coast. Well-done from me too.

i really like the idea of this photo - for me it work because it feel like i am almost looking up at the sky before realising it is a reflection and the pool of water is nicely framed within by the surrounding rocks!

This seems both simple and complex at the same time- after I read Don's comment, I can see it both as a close up, and as a far up airplane image! You've left the interpretation up to us! Great stuff!
