The Hand of GodPosted by Scott F. Schilling (San Martin, United States) on 9 August 2012 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. On the way home from a recent Yosemite Photo Shoot we were treated to a light show from a passing thunderstorm over the Central Valley of California. We were able to find a good viewing location from the Sierra Foothills. I was running a series of 30 second exposures and working to time the exposures with the rythm of the lightning strikes.
I WILL BE CO-TEACHING PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS IN 2012 AND 2013, AND PRIVATE INSTRUCTION IN YOSEMITE VALLEY! THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE YOUR VISION, SKILLS, AND TECHNIQUE!

@Curly: It requires a good location and a safe distance from the storm! At night it is a bit easier because you can go a 30 second to 60 second exposure and during a storm you have a great chance of capturing some strikes. I shoot towards the downdraft of rain coming out of the cloud. That is where the majority of strikes occur. @Stefan: Stefan thanks for the comments! @Judy aka L@dybug: Judy thanks for the kind words! I hope your keeping cool this month! This image has been featured in 4 Remix collections. |
