Yosemite Winter Light - Yosemite PodcastPosted by Scott F. Schilling (San Martin, United States) on 24 December 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. Happy Holidays!!!! The last warm touch of sunlight before night sets in - Alpen Glow - touches El Capitan as viewed along the Merced River in Yosemite, California. Myself, Don Smith, and Mike Hall, had the opportunity to make a quick trip to Yosemite Valley following a very cold Alaskan storm. The fortunate thing is that the valley floor warmed just enough in the late afternoon to evaporate some moisture which formed an incredible array of clouds just prior to sunset. It was a light show that I won't soon forget. I felt fortunate to be in that time and place in order to attempt to capture a bit of what mother nature can exhibit! I have uploaded a new Yosemite Podcast of the recent trip available on iTunes or the other link shown below. For the next couple weeks I will post images from this trip. Have a wonderful Holiday! Also in this podcast is a detailed discussion of how I use my remote shutter release for long exposure photography and a discussion on hyperfocal distance! I am not sure if the casual listener will survive through it - But Judy, from Brooksville, Florida had an important question! Plus, How else am I going to stay awake while driving at 3:00 am! THE FIRST OF FIVE 2010 SHOWS IS COMING UP AT SILICON VALLEY OPEN STUDIOS: EXCITING NEWS - YOU CAN NOW LISTEN TO MY PODCAST AND FOLLOW ALONG WITH ME ON MY PHOTOGRAPHY ADVENTURES!

Thank you for the gift you give us with your beautiful photographs! 24 Dec 2009 5:34am MK from Kuala Lumpur, MalaysiaWOWWWWW...el capitan in winter. I wonder why theres less reflection, may be the water was not very deep...good work 24 Dec 2009 5:45am @MK: Thanks for the comment! In this specific location the water is running a bit faster in the river and thus does not provide as much reflection. Although the warm light from El Capitan and the clouds did touch all the way across the river, even in the rough water. Julie from Easton, United StatesJust beautiful, the colors are terrific! God, to be there to see that must have been breathtaking! 24 Dec 2009 6:06am MK from Kuala Lumpur, MalaysiaI had a look at ur previous posts, ur photos r all so awesome 24 Dec 2009 6:08am Lambspun from Madison, Maine, United StatesThis photo is incredible ....Thanks for all you contribute :) 24 Dec 2009 6:31am Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, SpainThe peak in fire!! I listened to your Lake Tahoe II podcast and next the more recent Yosemite Winter Adventure podcast this morning, blushing when I heard my name. :D 24 Dec 2009 12:39pm Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, CanadaThank you for this early Christmas present Scott! Merry Christmas! ;-) 24 Dec 2009 12:52pm MARIANA from Waterloo, CanadaMerry Christmas and Happy New Year, Scott ! 24 Dec 2009 2:32pm Don Smith from California, United StatesAs beautiful as this light is with its gorgeous reflection across the Merced River and the frozen surroundings, there is one tiny aspect that completes this image for me, and that is the eloquent line formed by the foreground bank of snow. This is a mark of a photographer who is paying attention to all details in the frame. It would have been so easy for you to have become completely focused and mesmerized by the alpenglow painting El Capitan, that you could have settled for any foreground; yet you made sure all the edges of your frame had your utmost attention. I know you and Mike have heard me say many times, "It is the little details that can make or break a photograph," and you certainly paid attention to the "details!" The processing of this image is also impeccable! This photograph needs to be printed large, put under glass, and placed prominently. Great work! I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas. I look forward to seeing you on New Year's Eve. 24 Dec 2009 3:01pm Ted from South Wales, United KingdomStunning. Absolutely stunning! 24 Dec 2009 7:49pm jeanclaude from st mande 94160, Francegreat great shot 5 stars 24 Dec 2009 7:55pm Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesHeavens, Scott - this is simply as good as it gets. 5 Stars awarded - yet insufficient. This is to color digital photography what the B&W's of Ansel Adams were to silver emulsion. A lot of effort often goes into being at the right place and time. Here, you took full advantage of the presence you created and turned it to full advantage. Magnificent! 24 Dec 2009 8:39pm Self-Indulgence from Chicagoland, United StatesWow, I saw Don's and now yours.. I'm telling you that lighting is just.. out of this world! 24 Dec 2009 9:03pm Xerophytes from London, United KingdomBreath-taking! It's really an amazing picture. The difference of the sunshine and the icy place made both scenario really stood out! Merry Christmas! 25 Dec 2009 8:28am Le Photoneur from PEPINSTER, BelgiumOooh, c'est beau, ... very nice JOYEUX NOEL 25 Dec 2009 10:13am Yvon from Orleans, Francewow, what a great and nice shot from a wonderful national park 25 Dec 2009 5:40pm Rui from Leiria, PortugalAmazing. Looks like the mountain is on fire. Meery Christmas Scott! 25 Dec 2009 7:14pm DarkElf from Perth, Australiajust sensational - this series of shots and the light captured have been amazing - really good composition from a low vantage point that underlines the grandeur of the mountain and its "golden-red crown"! 26 Dec 2009 4:04am Allan Clark from Dunedin, New ZealandAll the best for Christmas and the new year i will be back 2010 and thank you for all your comments 26 Dec 2009 8:19am Vitor Martins from Lisboa, PortugalSuperb image, The golden light and the reflection of it as well as the fantastic conbination of warm and cold tones in the same image is amaizing. 26 Dec 2009 9:24pm Bethany from Michigan, United StatesWow, I am impressed by the gloom in the foreground of this image with the burst of yellow light at the cliff top.
