The Betatikin Navajo National MonumentPosted by Scott F. Schilling (San Martin, United States) on 1 July 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. This is a photograph of the Betatikin Indian ruin - The ruin is across the canyon and located underneath the huge natural arch. This was a challenging location to try and compose something with a foreground element. There was nothing to use at the vista point and the Betatikin ruin is opposite side of a very wide canyon. It looks very small without a good zoom lens - It gives me a good reason to save up for a 500mm zoom lens someday! The afternoon clouds made for some nice even light. It shows how the village is nestled away among the nature of today. 1 Jul 2009 12:06pm Bethany from Michigan, United StatesAlthough I don't think Pueblo was necessarily the right term to use here! 1 Jul 2009 12:07pm Tracy from La Selva Beach, United StatesThis is great! I really like the wider angle shot here, it gives such a fantastic amount of scale to the image! I get the feeling of the solitude and isolation of this place. Wonderful job! 1 Jul 2009 1:20pm B. Thomas from Arlington, Texas, United StatesBeautiful. It looks like it might have been hot in some of the locations. I think you had to work for these shots! 1 Jul 2009 1:37pm Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, CanadaWonderful colour and texture contrasts in this shot Scott! I like how you have popped out the green. : ) 1 Jul 2009 10:39pm mats from Texas, United StatesHow far were you? Are those supposedly apartments? (middle part of the picture) Wow1 This is one place to must see. Thanks for sharing. 2 Jul 2009 3:28am @mats: This is an ancient Anasazi Indian ruin that is amazing due to it's location. It is across a wide canyon probably a 1/2 mile to 3/4 mile away is my guess. The Anasazi built two amazing civilizations in this canyon area. One is a 4 to 5 mile hike in with a guided tour but is one of the best preserved Anasazi sites. This is part of the Navajo National monument in Arizona Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, SpainAnother great image, I like the panoramic and the details of the ruin. Good one 2 Jul 2009 5:18am Don Smith from California, United StatesAnother incredible site Scott. That guide was worth his weight in gold to get you to all these places. After seeing all your wonderful images, I have put this destination on my list of "must do's!" I've seen other images from this location, but I am glad to see you found a unique angle of view. As usual, very well done! 2 Jul 2009 1:22pm @Don Smith: Don thanks. No guide needed at this location. This is along the road and a couple hours from monument Valley at the Navajo National monument - a spectacular area just to see! |
