Monument Valley SunsetPosted by Scott F. Schilling (San Martin, United States) on 23 June 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. There are times when the sunset is just amazing and the clouds get touched with that last bit of warm sunlight before the sun drops below the horizon. This was such an evening in Monument Valley - I mentioned previously that often during the summer months the thunderstorms form during the afternoon heating, and as the evening approaches they often begin to wane in strength. The thunderheads still had a little bit of moisture in the distance as evening came to a close. This is taken at a prominent photographic location right at Monument View Lodge near the parking lot. I was probably there with 30 other people all viewing the sunset - this made for a bit of a challenge to try and work around everyone and still get a composition that I was comfortable with. I tried to include just a piece of the foreground rock to give some additional perspective. However, the clouds and the warm red rock stole the show and I attempted to highlight that in this image.
