Henry Cowell Redwoods State ParkPosted by Scott F. Schilling (San Martin, United States) on 25 April 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. I had a fun opportunity to attend science camp for a couple of days with one of my children - my 6th grader. It was in the Santa Cruz Mountains located near one of the Giant Redwood State Parks. The Giant Redwood trees are amazing to see. They are huge! They live 2,000 to 3,000 years and are the tallest trees on earth. The Giant Sequoia trees are a close second, they are larger in diameter but don't grow quite as tall as the Giant Redwoods. The Redwoods grow along the California fog belt areas from Central California to the Oregon/California border. The tallest known tree is 386 feet tall. The larger redwoods in Henry Cowell State Park are more than 1,000 years old. We did some hiking and I took my light weight camera with me and no tripod - but I enjoyed the challenge of trying to take some photographs of the sights in the area. I will post a few from this area for the next few days. I love your photo' perhaps a figure in the scene would highlight the sense of scale? and what about this poem to capture the moment.. Take a few deep breaths and keeping your eyes closed... listen to these astonishing words captured by David Wagoner in his poem.....Lost “Lost” Stand still... the trees ahead and the bushes beside you... 25 Apr 2009 8:59am Hidalgo from Herunen, FinlandGorgeus!
