Pacific Valley - Big SurPosted by Scott F. Schilling (San Martin, United States) on 28 March 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. I was hoping to catch a few more compositions of this location with the setting sun, but the sun dipped behind the clouds - it gives me a good reason to go back this spring! This is Just after sunset along the Big Sur Coast in a location called Pacific Valley. The high mountain in the distance rises up to 5,000' above sea level - I am looking forward to catching another sunset here in the future. ZoomLNZ from Los Angeles Area, United StatesI love your technique of this rugged coastline. Splendid! 28 Mar 2009 5:15am marie from perth, AustraliaHi Scott, amazing colours here, love the textures in the rocks, and once again you have captured the water with great skill. 28 Mar 2009 5:27am Miguel Almeida from Lisboa, PortugalHi Scott, 28 Mar 2009 10:09am Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, FranceFabulous point of view on this jagged wild coast. Lot of depth in this picture. 28 Mar 2009 11:25am Tracy from La Selva Beach, United StatesI think this is a really nice shot, Scott. I really like the composition with the sharp & jagged rocks in the foreground. The detail on them is perfect. I think it makes for a nice contrast to the softer feel of the water, and ties in nicely with the sea stacks. I agree with Evelyne, lots of depth in this. I like the cool feeling of the colors too. 28 Mar 2009 12:25pm Judy from Brooksville, Florida, United StatesIt's all been said; I too, like the foreground but also the sea stacks against the misty shoreline in the distance. 28 Mar 2009 12:53pm Don Smith from California, United StatesYou continue to amaze em with how many varied compositions you get out of one location. That shows me you are not content with just "one" scene; that must result from a lot of scouting prior to the great light! 28 Mar 2009 1:51pm roentarre from Melbourne, AustraliaThe landscape is incredible! I love the composition and the water is so stunningly strong. Great impact 28 Mar 2009 2:13pm john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesFabulous wave action, Scott! Superb composition! And your "hallmark" dynamite processing! 28 Mar 2009 2:50pm Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, SpainWith these wonderful photos that you show us, I'm sure that a day I will go to Big Sur, my friend :) 28 Mar 2009 6:51pm Yonatan from Bronx, United StatesYou included many wonderful elements in this composition from the rugged rocks, to the grass, to the rough surf, and open sea. Well seen. Did you use any graduated neutral density filters to help with properly exposing the foreground in this shot or was the light working with you that day? 28 Mar 2009 11:56pm @Yonatan: A couple years ago I was using filters exclusively, and then I started using Photomatix and bracketing - which I preferred because I kept dropping my filters on the ground and that would cause a dirt problem and greater difficulty especially if the light was changing fast. So now I am bracketing everything and using Photomatix HDR - or lately I have been bracketing and masking more in Photoshop CS4 using the darker exposure for the sky and the brighter for the foreground. This takes a lot more time for me but I get better clarity and I like the look better - however, with some photos it is a major amount of work!! The use of filters is probably simpler by reducing the processing time - however, when I am out shooting it is a lot less cumbersome for me and I can shoot more, however, I have to spend more time processing later! Suzanne from Huntington Bch, California, United StatesSo very rugged and dramatic. A far cry from here in Huntington Beach. 29 Mar 2009 12:51am |
